Microwave Oven Bridges The Gap28/10/2009
The low cost Samsung 'Superlite' semi-commercial microwave oven fills the gap between light duty, domestic models and more expensive, larger commercial microwaves. Samsung commercial microwave ovens are distributed in the UK by Uropa Distribution
The Samsung Superlite, CM1039K, has a power output of 1000W and is sturdily built with a black metal outer cabinet and stainless steel inner cavity. Designed to withstand the demand of a semi-commercial environment it is ideal for self-service office catering requirements, pubs and small cafes, where microwaves are not the main source of cooking, and university student kitchens where domestic models are not hard-wearing enough.
With large, clear, easy-to-use, manual dial controls for power and timer settings, the Superlite has five power levels to offer versatility in cooking: three cook levels from 500 to 1000 Watt and two defrost settings. The pull-open door has a large display window.
The Superlite plugs directly into a standard 13 Amp socket so no special wiring is necessary. Overall dimensions are 297 x 517 x 412 mm and the Superlite is supplied with a full one-year parts and labour warranty.

Microwave Ovens For When The Going Gets Tough28/10/2009
Microwave ovens are essential pieces of kit wherever speed is of the essence, quality is vital and ease-of-operation is a must. They can do so much more than a rapid defrost. They can cook efficiently and quickly retaining taste and flavour and speed up operations during up preparation or finishing. But they need to be up to the job.
Uropa has just been appointed the sole UK distributer for the Samsung range of commercial microwave ovens. These ovens are built from heavy gauge stainless steel to withstand the tough use of commercial catering environments. They have 35% more usable internal space than comparable compact microwave ovens of a similar size, thus increasing their cooking capability without taking up extra counter space
All Samsung commercial microwaves have dual-magnetron top-feeding microwave distribution to ensure an even cooking pattern, while five power settings give greater cooking versatility and efficiency. A one-touch +20 seconds button adds extra time while the microwave continues to cook.
The CM1319 (manual controls) and CM1329 (programmable controls) medium duty models operate at 1300 Watt and are ideally suited to locations as varied as cafes, fish and chip shops, garage forecourts, hospital wards and university student flats. They are easy to wipe clean and have an easily removable air filter, while a one-piece, dishwasher-proof roof-liner ensures that the cooking cavity can be kept spotless – even in student flats!
The CM1329 has a 30-program facility for regular menu items and a cycle counter to record how often each program is being used. A program lock option allows one-touch operation, which is especially useful in fast food vending sites such as garage forecourts.
Both models run off a 13-amp plug and are supplied by Uropa with a three year no-fuss parts and labour warranty that has the option of being extended to five years.

Small Chiller Gives The Big Chill28/10/2009
For convenience in supplying a variety of menu items quickly, and to order, many kitchens use a blast chiller to chill hot food they prepare in bulk cooking sessions. Until recently blast chillers and freezers have been the preserve of larger catering establishments as they have tended to be big and expensive items of equipment. But now, with the introduction of the compact Ital Lampo blast chiller, this technology is within reach of smaller establishments both in terms of cost and space.
The Ital Lampo, available from Uropa, is a compact blast chiller and freezer combined that offers all the power of the larger models - rapidly chilling food to +3 degrees C in 90 minutes and shock freezing to -18 degrees C in 240 minutes - without compromising the freshness and taste. With a storage capacity of 29 litre and measuring just 620 x 600 x 400mm, the Lampo can hold 3 x 2/3 gastronorm pans but is small enough to fit on, or under, a countertop, tucking in alongside existing equipment.
Simple controls and robust, stainless steel construction ensure the Lampo will withstand the demanding environment of a busy commercial kitchen. Uropa supplies the Lampo with a full one-year parts and labour warranty.

Full Steam Ahead - Samsung Microwaves make the perfect 'steamed' microwave meal28/10/2009
The latest breakthrough in microwave cooking is a special packaging that allows microwaved food to be ‘steam cooked’ under controlled pressure. This type of cooking is having an impact in hospitals and staff canteens while providing a vending solution for out of hours hot food provision. Caterers are finding the special packaging improves food quality and nutritional value over traditional microwaved meals.
Samsung have been involved in these developments as its heavy and 'super-heavy' duty commercial microwave ovens, distributed in the UK by Uropa Distribution, are particularly suitable for this type of cooking. With outputs from 1100 Watt to 1850 Watt the Samsung microwaves are bigger than standard microwaves, they have 35% more usable cavity volume than comparable compact microwave ovens of a similar size. This increases the size of packaging that can be placed in the oven and subsequently increases catering capability.
The new packaging is very simple to use. Plated meals, multi-portion or vending packs are heat sealed with lids or in bags and placed in a microwave oven for 4 to 6 minutes. The water molecules in the food are heated by the microwaves generating steam pressure. A special steam release valve in the packaging balances the steam pressure and prevents the breakdown of the food.
Dishes cooked in this way are ‘steamed’ rather than microwaved and are both appetising and nutritious. They retain the full flavour of the food without any loss of texture or appearance. It also enables ‘differential cooking’ i.e. a variety of products can be placed in the same package and cooked at the same time.
All the Samsung microwaves have five power settings and dual-magnetron top-feeding microwave distribution to ensure an even cooking pattern. An easily removable air filter and one-piece dishwasher-proof roof liner are fitted for ease of cleaning although the new steam packaging ensures that the inside of the oven remains relatively clean.
“We see this new packaging becoming increasingly popular in the commercial environment,” says David Watts of Uropa. “It is so simple to operate and implement. All it requires of the operator is to press a button on the microwave and the rest is fully automatic. And importantly, as the Samsung microwaves do not require any special installation techniques, there is also a short project lead-in time for any establishment wanting to change over to this method."
Other benefits of the new ‘steam packaging’ include excellent cost control as there is precise portion control and so no waste, also meals can be cooked at anytime on a supply on demand basis. This type of packaging is being developed for the foodservice market as a lead on from retail experience.
